The images appearing at the top of this site were taken from other people who have graciously licensed their work under Creative Commons. In order to ensure that proper attribution is given, I have included below links to the original photos.
- Aqueduct of Segovia
- Roman amphitheater in Beit Shean – columns
- Roman amphitheater in Beit Shean – seats
The ruins appearing in the images were all constructed by the Romans during the Hellenistic period. In order to maintain a consistent look for the site I edited each of the images using GIMP. I first applied a selective Gaussian blur to get rid of much of the finer details and compression artifacts. I then applied the Cartoon filter using the following settings:
- Mask radius: 2.00
- Percent black: 0.020
This creates the heavy black outlines that make the images look like drawings. I then converted the color mode to 256 colors in order to limit the file sizes.
